WHAT IS HEPATITIS?

Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver and has a variety of causes. The most frequent cause is infection by a virus (viral hepatitis). There are several viruses that cause hepatitis, however, the most frequently encountered ones are called Hepatitis A (HVA), Hepatitis B (HVB) and Hepatitis C (HVC).

WHAT IS A VACCINE?

A vaccine confers immunity to a virus by signaling your immune system to prepare to fend off that virus.  Vaccines are made from a dead virus, a weakened version of the virus (live virus) or sometimes just a piece of the virus.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Sexually transmitted diseases (referred to as "STDs") are diseases that are usually spread through sexual activity. They include chlamydia, gonorrhea, genital herpes, HIV/AIDS, and syphilis. Except for colds and influenza, STDs are the most common contagious diseases in the United States.
